Greater JFK IBID Planning Committee
The Greater JFK IBID Planning Committee that spearheaded the BID formation was totally home-grown and was represented by 25 + members consisting of commercial property owners and tenants, resident property owners and tenants, neighborhood association leaders, representatives from Queens Community Board 12 and 13, and government representatives at all levels. Key staff from the NYC Department of Small Business Services guided the Committee in its responsibility to follow the policy and procedures as well as the BID Law throughout the IBID formation process. Given the complexity of the project, the NYC Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) provided support to the Committee by engaging the services of a BID Consultant Team for initial BID planning effort. Private sector property owners provided funds for the final phases of BID Planning and the Start-up task following the approval of the BID and signing into Law.
The Greater JFK Planning Committee led the effort to undertake the BID formation process as outlined by the NYC Department of Small Business Services and by the BID Law. A needs assessment for the Greater JFK IBID was completed along with regular outreach to the IBID area membership as well as City agencies serving the area to gain important insights to inform the services and improvements of the district.
Invitations to join the BID Planning Committee were distributed and the first meeting was convened in November 2013. The JFK IBID Planning Committee met regularly and has performed the Start-up tasks that establishes an operational organization represented by a Board of Directors.
